All canines are carnivores. Feed your dog meat.

The (truth|fact|reality} is, veterinarians like to address particular health problems (make money) during your dogs life. As pet owners we do not care about our veterinarian’s would like to make money at the cost of our dogs living shorter lives. Very popular commercial dog foods that have been recommended by veterinarians are poison to your dog. It is not similar to see gray whiskers of hair on your dog at 4 years old. It is not common to see a dog, that historically lived 13 years, live only 9 or 10 years. The commercial-grade dog food mills do not want to admit the gray hair is from a deficiency of minerals. The low protein levels and high proportion of carbohydrates are causing kidney, liver and bladder problems.

Look at a your pet food title and read the ingredients. Why should you feed a carnivorous animal 10% to 30% protein? High protein diets do not damage a dog’s kidneys, contradictory to the mindless experts who advocate otherwise. A dog’s digestive system is made for high protein diets. since when did a dog eat potatoes, wheat and corn. Is a dog a crow? We need to waken up as pet owners and not trust the recent trend of high quality premium pet foods. Some sled dogs will eat 40% fat for endurance and 40 to 60% protein for muscle. On long sled races, such as the Iditarod 1,100 miles, the dog will eat 70% fat, 25% to 30% protein and 12,000 calories a day. Although, most of our dogs are not sled dogs and do not demand high fat diets.

It is not mandatory to list the carbohydrate percentage in dog food. If you add up the percentages of the list of ingredients, it does not add up to 100%.  The contents of the leftover ingredients which are not listed in the percentages, are carbohydrates.  How does a dog digest large amounts of carbohydrates? The pancreas has to ingest the climb in blood sugar from the elevated carbohydrate diet. Over many years of the stress, the dogs create many health problems. Some side affects are crystals in the bladder and urethra which create an infection from the climb in sugar. Your veterinarian will prescribe antibiotics, but not have a clue how to prevent the infection from returning.

Commercial-grade dog foods list ingredients such as bone meal or meat meal. This is a nice way of telling the consumer the food is a mix of dead animals, which have been euthanized, from the local animal shelter, ill animals and all the body parts, non-human grade food. Today you also see new dog food brands introduced which take profit of the mistrust in commercial dog food. You will see human grade chicken, lamb, meat and fish on the packaging. Again, see at the ingredients to see the percentage of protein, and total up the total proportion of ingredients to know the carbohydrate levels.

Attempt comparing the price of premium dog food with purchasing ground turkey or meat at the local market. Many times, purchasing human grade food is less expensive than premium dog food. At least you recognize what you are feeding your dog from the marketplace. I prepare for my dogs, and as a result, my big breed dogs weighing over 100 pounds, have lived 13 years. If you do not have time to cook for your dog, look for dog food that is over 40% protein. It is best to find a freeze dried meat, turkey or chicken, with no added artificial preservatives and carbohydrates, which can cause kidney failure.
